ABOUT GWYNNGALA....
Gwynngala is a group of professional artists and makers from the Launceston area who origianally
came together in 1996 to put on an ehibition of their work. Following the success of this show they
took on the lease of the Southgate Arch Gallery in Launceston.
In 1997 the group obtained a grant from the National Lottery, funded arts for everyone scheme,
which enabled them run a series of creative workshops both for schools and the local community.
These activities remain of continued importance to members, their efforts being assisted through sponsorship from David S Smith Packaging and North Cornwall District Council.
In September 2003 the decision was taken to vacate the gallery and focus on taking the group's
work to a variety of venues, the details of which, for 2008, are listed below.
Gwynngala's initial group of 12 members has now increased to 21, whos creative activities
include
a wide range of media and styles. The aims of the group are to provide contemporary visual arts in
an area where there is little other available, and to promote and develope the members' skills and artistry through interaction with each other.
